How We Test

Say what you know, and how you know it

Every stay, route, and product on this site carries a status badge stating exactly how much evidence sits behind it. Nothing is upgraded because it would read better.

The instrument

The Dog Stay Report

A Dog Stay Report is written on site, by a human travelling with a Test Dog. It records the route from the room to the outside, what the dog was and was not allowed to do, and how the property actually behaved on arrival rather than what its website says.

A property only receives a Dog Stay Report after a stay. Until then it stays marked as upcoming, and we publish no findings.

The four measures

Applied identically at every property, so two very different stays can be compared honestly.

01

3AM Potty Break

How quickly and easily can you get from the sleeping area to a usable outdoor relief surface when the dog needs to go?

Time, doors, stairs, elevators, hallway length, lighting, surface, weather exposure, and re-entry friction.

02

Room Access

Exterior door, hallway, stairs, elevator, thresholds, distance.

How the room connects to the outside world, and how much of that route you have to negotiate with a dog on a lead.

03

Dog Included

Where can the dog actually join the humans?

Which spaces on the property are open to the dog, and which ones quietly are not.

04

Pet Policy

Fees, limits, restrictions, unattended-dog rules, and what actually happens on arrival.

The written policy, and how closely the front desk follows it once you are standing there.

Evidence status

Field-tested

A Test Dog and a human stayed on site and completed a Dog Stay Report.

Policy verified

We confirmed the written dog policy directly with the property.

Researched

Compiled from published material. Not confirmed on site or with staff.

Community reported

Sent in by readers travelling with their dogs. Unverified by us.

Upcoming — field test begins September 2026

On the schedule. We have not stayed here yet, so we publish no findings.

Editorial independence and affiliate disclosure

Dogs Are Coming is editorially independent. We pay for our own stays unless we state otherwise directly on the page, and no property, brand, or agency reviews our writing before it is published.

Some links may earn a commission. Commissions never influence what we cover, what we recommend, or what we report. If a stay or a product does not work, we say so.

We do not publish user reviews, testimonials, scores, dog reactions, prices, or pet policies that we have not confirmed ourselves.

The places worth taking the dog.

The gear worth packing, and the details most travel sites forget.

No spam. Unsubscribe whenever. We only send when there is something real to report.
